The Price Hike Rally - Another Historic Opportunity Like the 25th Nov Rally

I think the 6th July Price Hike Rally is going to turn out to be an extremely strategic and historic political event in Malaysia. Do not miss out on being there to be part of the million that made it happen. The implications of the 1 miilion people turnout are many. Let me outline some of the major ones.
The BN lawmakers will get another big, very big, reminder of the power of the people. This is another major opportuntity, like the elections, to join hands with all other patriotic Malaysian to send that strong signal to the UMNO government that the people truly want change. The UMNO governement can only continue to ignore this message at their own peril.
1 million people will be a major international event. It will be historic. The world over will shift their attention to the unjust and crony riddled and corrupt regime of Abdullah Badawi - even if only for one day. The International media will project Malaysia to be like another Zimbabwe.This will pile up pressure on the UMNO and the BN lawmakers. This will surely make some of them re-evaluate their support for a position that is not tenuous anymore.
It could trigger a change in mind of those lawmakers who are sitting on the fence - especially those from Sabah and Sarawak. This reinforcement is necessary now, as it looks like the Sabah and Sarawak MPs are waivering somewhat under pressure.
The people need another shot in the arm to continue with their righteous struggle - it is obvious that UMNO is now recouping some of its lost ground by gagging, by bribing and by hitting out through proxies. A large gathering will increase the confidence of the Rakyat to the decision they made in giving the PR a chance at Government in the 12th GE and putting the UMNO government on notice.
A large multi racial gathering will give the Malays, Indians and Chinese of being truly Malaysians - a feeling that the UMNO has been eroding with its divisive policies and rhetoric.
So, all of you out there, you must make it for the Rally on the 6th of July in PJ. The date and location has been changed - please see the report below about the change. This is a major opportunity that must not be missed. Please pass this message along to as many people as you can and as soon as possible so, arrangements can be made to come for the rally in PJ. We must mobilise as many Hindraf supporters as possible to come to this Rally, just like for the 25th Nov Rally. We must be a significant portion of the 1 miilion who will gather there .

Organizers have made changes to the date and venue of the planned mammoth anti-fuel price hike rally which was planned to be held in Kuala Lumpur on July 5.
The actually location which was suggested earlier was suppose to be at the KLCC. However, Dr Hatta Ramli who is the organizer of Protes said that the new venue will be held on July 6 at Jalan Timur, Petaling Jaya.
He mentions that the change of date to the 6th is because it is a Sunday and it allows more people to attend the anti-fuel hike rally. Apart from that he said that it is because they do not want to interrupt business operations at KLCC. They are very considerate =)
“An empty space at Jalan Timur will be used so that there will not be any traffic jam and it is also for the safety of those who attend the rally. It is a strategic location where people may come by the Federal Highway and Taman Jaya LRT” said Hatta

Kuala Lumpur, June 26 (IANS) An opposition lawmaker in Malaysia has asked for the extradition of a London-based ethnic Indian leader if his activities were found inimical to national security.
The government should make its stand clear on the nature of activity of Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairman P. Waythamoorthy 'whether he should walk free, or be arrested', Tian Chua, an ethnic Chinese lawmaker, said Wednesday in Malaysian parliament lobby.
He belongs to the Parti Keadalan Rakyat (PKR) of former deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.
The opposition front, the Pakatan Rakyat, of which the PKR is a constituent, has repeatedly, asked the government to come clear on the nature of charges against the Hindraf leaders, The Star newspaper said Thursday.
Waythamoorthy left Malaysia to campaign for the organisation's cause while five of his colleagues - M. Manoharan, V. Ganabatirau, P. Uthayakumar, S. Kengadharan and Vasanth Kumar - are in jail under the stringent Internal Security Act since last December for organising a protest rally in November.
Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) said the home ministry should make its stand on the matter clear, and announce whether Waythamoorthy should be allowed to walk freely or be arrested.
'If he is a threat to national security, then arrest him. Send a request to the British government to repatriate him. If he is on the wanted list, then we should restrict his international activities,' he said.
Waythamoorthy has been residing in London since last December after his colleagues were detained.
Chua said he had submitted a question to the Dewan Rakyat (parliament) asking if the home ministry would arrest Waythamoorthy, and if yes, under which act.
However, the question was rejected under Standing Orders 23(1)(h) as it was considered 'hypothetical'.
'The question is not hypothetical. I feel it is unfair that the question was turned down. We do not know if there is an (arrest) warrant out for him,' he said.
Meanwhile, the Hindraf, accused of collecting funds for engaging in 'terror-linked activities' by the Malaysian authorities, has asked its cadres to stop any fund-raising drive.
It has asked the public not to be duped by individuals seeking donations supposedly to raise funds for the group.
Its coordinator V. Raidu Wednesday disapproved of those doing so under the guise of selling tickets for charity concerts.
'Hindraf does not approve of such methods as we have stopped collecting funds from the public a long time ago,' he told reporters Wednesday after visiting his brother Ganabatirau, one of the five Hindraf leaders detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA) at the Kamunting detention centre.
Raidu said he learnt of the fund-gathering charge when he accompanied Ganabatirau's wife, B. Buvaneswary and K. Vickneswary, wife of detainee K. Vasanthakumar, to visit their husbands.
The five Hindraf leaders were detained after they organised a protest rally highlighting alleged discrimination against the two million-plus ethnic Indians.
The detainees told Raidu that the Hindraf was being accused of raising funds for 'covert activities linked to terrorism'.
Raidu said some cash had been raised last year but the RM68,000 ($21,250 approx.) collected was spent to pay for bail of those detained for participating in Hindraf-organised rallies.
Both Vickneswary and Buvaneswary said they had not received any of the 'donations'.

Hindraf urges Commonwealth to suspend Malaysia

Hindraf, a Malaysian outfit spearheading a stir by ethnic-Indians, will press the Commonwealth to suspend Kuala Lumpur from the body for its discriminatory policies against the community.
"We will urge the 54-member Commonwealth to suspend Malaysia from its body," said Malaysia-born Waytha Moorthy, founder-chairman of the Hindu Rights Action Force.
Moorthy, a lawyer by profession, is currently seeking asylum in the United Kingdom after the Malaysian government revoked his passport following his return from Geneva on April 21.
"I was totally shocked when I was informed by the UK immigration officer at Gatwick Airport that the Malaysian government has revoked my passport, thus making me de facto stateless."
"The Malaysian government had intended that I be deported back to Malaysia by the British authorities so that I too could be arrested under the draconian Internal Security Act and be detained for an unspecified period of time without trial and be subjected to torture and inhumane treatment for my political beliefs," Moorthy said.
Five Hindraf members, including a newly elected lawmaker, have been in detention since December under ISA for leading unprecedented anti-government street protests in Kuala Lumpur. Their repeated pleas for freedom have been struck down by the Malaysian judiciary.
"I have not committed any offence or crime other than to champion the cause of the systematically marginalised, discriminated and alienated ethnic Indian community in Malaysia, who remained permanently colonised despite achieving independence 51 years ago."
Moorthy said he was distressed that the land where his forefathers 'toiled as indentured labourers' had decided to banish and exile him for speaking for his community.
He claimed that the Malaysian government had demolished an estimated 10,000 Hindu temples during the last 20 years in the name of development.
"We are not against development but we are against targeting the ethnic minorities and their places of worship in the name of development," the Hindraf leader said.
He said the Malaysian government had arrested the five members on the 'cooked up' charge that they were linked to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, though they had nothing to do with the Tamil Tigers.
Among those arrested and held under ISA is his elder brother P Uthayakumar, a leading Malaysian lawyer.
He said there were about 1.8 million to two million ethnic Indians including Christians, Muslims and Hindus in Malaysia, which has a population of 27 million.
Moorthy, who did his law from the UK, said, "The Malaysian government is opening a new chapter in the history of our democratic struggle by revoking my passport and arresting others connected with the movement."
He alleged that ethnic Indians in Malaysia were denied equal opportunities in education and other fields and their plantations were acquired by government.

i just one question WHY???don't get me wrong. looking at hindraf there is 2 diffrent concept being used. one is trying to be loving caring society and another is trying to anger the goverment.i urge the hindraf take into account the credit crunch that is hitting all of us at the moment.sir i understand that ur trying to seek asylum in uk. then what happens? is it all over when the 5h are out !! u started a movement back home and it will get weaker when doubt sets in people.why don't ur pressure the indian goverment since we are all indians. i believe u have been in uk for sometime now and i believe u have seen the uk goverment is not in the best position at the moment. Looking back at tibet and china. the tibets really came out with mega stunt to get the worlds attention but its all over now.i am not demotivating ur attentions. but urge it to be a constructive and usefull one!!

It is not as easy as it sounds. So far, we have not seen India move an inch to help the Malaysian Indians, or to put it correctly, Tamil Malaysians for the following reasons:
Malaysians of Indian origins are not subjects or citizens of India, but Malaysia
Helping Malaysians of Indian origins is not in India's interest
We're all Tamils!
India cannot even help its own citizens, being the Tamils of Tamil Nadu. Hundreds of Indian Tamil fishermen have been killed by the Sri Lankan navy, while scores have been arrested. Has India ever went to their aid? Then what makes us think that India will come to the aid of the Tamil Malaysians/ Malaysian Indians? Not to sound negative, but if all the Malaysian Indians were of North Indian origins (Gujurati, Punjabi, etc.), India would come rushing to help. Sadly, this is the truth. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good people who are of North Indian origins, but this is basically New Delhi's mindset. Remember one thing, India will only help if it is in India's interest to help.

Hindraf, a Malaysian outfit spearheading a stir by ethnic-Indians, will press the Commonwealth to suspend Kuala Lumpur from the body for its discriminatory policies against the community.
"We will urge the 54-member Commonwealth to suspend Malaysia from its body," said Malaysia-born Waytha Moorthy, founder-chairman of the Hindu Rights Action Force.
Moorthy, a lawyer by profession, is currently seeking asylum in the United Kingdom after the Malaysian government revoked his passport following his return from Geneva on April 21.
"I was totally shocked when I was informed by the UK immigration officer at Gatwick Airport that the Malaysian government has revoked my passport, thus making me de facto stateless."
"The Malaysian government had intended that I be deported back to Malaysia by the British authorities so that I too could be arrested under the draconian Internal Security Act and be detained for an unspecified period of time without trial and be subjected to torture and inhumane treatment for my political beliefs," Moorthy said.
Five Hindraf members, including a newly elected lawmaker, have been in detention since December under ISA for leading unprecedented anti-government street protests in Kuala Lumpur. Their repeated pleas for freedom have been struck down by the Malaysian judiciary.
"I have not committed any offence or crime other than to champion the cause of the systematically marginalised, discriminated and alienated ethnic Indian community in Malaysia, who remained permanently colonised despite achieving independence 51 years ago."
Moorthy said he was distressed that the land where his forefathers 'toiled as indentured labourers' had decided to banish and exile him for speaking for his community.
He claimed that the Malaysian government had demolished an estimated 10,000 Hindu temples during the last 20 years in the name of development.
"We are not against development but we are against targeting the ethnic minorities and their places of worship in the name of development," the Hindraf leader said.
He said the Malaysian government had arrested the five members on the 'cooked up' charge that they were linked to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, though they had nothing to do with the Tamil Tigers.
Among those arrested and held under ISA is his elder brother P Uthayakumar, a leading Malaysian lawyer.
He said there were about 1.8 million to two million ethnic Indians including Christians, Muslims and Hindus in Malaysia, which has a population of 27 million.
Moorthy, who did his law from the UK, said, "The Malaysian government is opening a new chapter in the history of our democratic struggle by revoking my passport and arresting others connected with the movement."
He alleged that ethnic Indians in Malaysia were denied equal opportunities in education and other fields and their plantations were acquired by government.

It is not as easy as it sounds. So far, we have not seen India move an inch to help the Malaysian Indians, or to put it correctly, Tamil Malaysians for the following reasons:

No law in Malaysia shames the country or undermines its democratic system of government more than the Internal Security Act (ISA), which allows indefinite, arbitrary detention without trial.
The ISA stands out as a barbaric law that goes against all our notions of what law and justice should mean. The ISA is an evil, anti-democratic law that can have no place in a country that upholds the Rule of Law.
The ISA subverts natural justice. Natural justice demands that any person accused of a crime should have the right to due process and to be presumed innocent unless and until he or she is convicted in an independent, open court of law.
Without due process and legal checks and balances, ISA detainees are left at the mercy of their captors. Detainees have complained of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment while under detention.
We therefore call for the immediate repeal of the ISA.
Please write to the Malaysian government and UN to express your protest.

A Dublin-based human right organisation today pressured the government to immediately release the five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders from their Internal Security Act detention.
The movement, Front Line, believed that the five were being detained without any trial "solely on account of their legitimate human rights activities".
The five - P Uthayakumar, M Manoharan, V Ganapathy Rao, T Vasanthakumar and R Kengatharan - were detained on Dec 13 over their involvement in Hindraf in raising issues affecting the Indian community.
They were immediately sent to the Kamunting detention centre in Taiping to undergo a two-year detention.
"We believe the five have been targeted as a result of their legitimate work in the defence of human rights, in particular their work defending the rights of the ethnic minority Indians in Malaysia," added the organisation.
Front Line raised these concerns in a letter written yesterday by its director Mary Lawlor to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Mizam Zainal Abidin.
Lawlor also said that the king should urge the government to accord immediate treatment to Uthayakumar who is a diabetic patient.
"His condition required that he take medication daily to control his blood sugar levels," she said.
Give Uthayakumar his treatment
Lawlor added that although Uthayakumar's family members were first allowed to supply his medication, this practice however ended since February this year with the prison authorities refusing to accept the medication.
"Furthermore the authorities did not provide Uthayakumar with any alternative medicine despite repeated formal requests," she said.
"Front Line is concerned for the physical and psychological integrity of the five, in particular Uthayakumar," added Lawlor.
She urged the authorities to ensure that Uthayakumar was supplied with all required medication for his condition and medical attention as needed.
Front Line also wanted the government to guarantee that in all circumstance all human rights defenders in Malaysia would be allowed to carry their activities without fear of reprisals.

ஈப்போ கலாச்சாரப் பூங்காவிலுள்ள பொது அரங்கில் நடைப்பெற்ற ஒரு கலாச்சார நிகழ்வில் பரதநாட்டியக் கலைஞர்கள் வழக்கம்போல் நடனமாடுவதற்குமுன் நடராசருக்கு செய்ய வேண்டிய பாதபூசையை 'அம்னோ' செய்யவிடாமல் தடுத்துவிட்டது.
