Support for Hindraf in Kedah ‘dying’
ALOR STAR: Support for Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) in the state is dying.
Kedah MIC deputy chairman S. Ganesan, said the Hindraf issue would not affect Barisan Nasio-nal’s performance.
Of the 877,934 registered voters in Kedah, 53,023 (6%) were Indians.
“We have gone down to the ground to gauge public sentiment. The Indian community realises that the Barisan Government can deliver and take care of its needs,'' he said yesterday.
He said Kedah MIC had 40,000 members, and between 75% and 80% of them were registered voters.
“We are confident all our members will vote for Barisan,” he said.
State seats with a significant percentage of Indian voters are Bukit Selambau (30%), Lunas (24%), Merbau Pulas (21%), Sidam (20%), Gurun (18%), Kulim (16%), Bakar Arang (13%) and Kuala Ketil (12%).
MIC is expected to contest the Lunas and Bukit Selembau seats
